AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination

Here is a little info about AVID, which I taught for two years and tutored for one year. I have seen firsthand how AVID benefits students by developing their reading, writing, test taking and study skills. It concentrates on critical thinking, inquiry and collaboration among students, as well. Students become like a close-knit family that grows every year as their friends become interested in joining. Many of my social studies students, who knew that I taught AVID, approached me for college and career advising when their guidance counselor was too busy. Here is a PowerPoint I helped create to explain to parents what AVID is all about. The pictures are all from my classroom.
